I went into this animated sequel to the hit original Croods film knowing absolutely nothing, and it was one of the biggest shocks I saw out of 2020 fare.
The Croods: A New Age is a delightful, wonderfully done kids movie that should even tickle the fancy of adults at home too.
The prehistoric-age film — nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature — follows the Croods family as they meet the Bettermans, a more civilized — or so they say — version of them.
As half the family adapts wonderfully to the fanciful inventions the Bettermans have, the other half wish they could go back to their simple lives.
With a wonderful, perfectly-matched voice cast including Nicolas Cage, Catherine Keener, the late Cloris Leachman, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and Clark Duke, these Croods are brought to full life in front of our eyes.
Playing newcomers the Bettermans are the incomparable Leslie Mann, Peter Dinklage and Kelly Marie Tran, making this an all-star voice cast.
It’s laugh-a-minute and has a kind streak to it that will make you smile, whether you had planned to or not. This is a great flick for families, adults and kids alike.
