STREAMING REVIEW: Midnight Sky a beautiful, heartfelt endeavour

While George Clooney’s gorgeous, dystopian Midnight Sky won’t win any Academy Awards for the well-regarded auteur, this is a piece of entertainment that discerning adults should see as soon as possible.

Clooney directs this tale of a post-apocalyptic future where Augustine – a scientist slowly dying – finds a small girl in the deserted station and tries to find her help before his time runs out.

The film is great popcorn entertainment with a serious tone, and Netflix hit a sweet spot with this one. It will hit the top of streaming upon release, based on Clooney’s name alone.

He gives a great, solitary, solemn performance here, and carries much of the film. Meanwhile, his character Augustine is trying to warn a group of astronauts not to come home to the barren wasteland.

Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, Demian Bichir and the fantastic Kyle Chandler are all just fantastic in supporting turns. Tiffany Boone, however, makes some amazing strides here.

This is a solid piece of sci-fi entertainment with a great set of performances, especially from Clooney. For an interesting ride – even if a tad cliche – you can do a whole lot worse than the gorgeously-shot Midnight Sky.
