One thing that everyone seems to forget when it comes to climate change: Future generations are the people who will have to deal with the fallout.
The impetus — and emotional core — of climate change documentary 2040 is the filmmaker’s work to find environmental solutions to help his young daughter’s future.
Writer-director Damon Garneau realizes his daughter will be 21-year-old in 2040, and envisions the world she’ll have to live in if we don’t try to change things now.
His journey, documented here, discussions projections, talking to experts, and finding innovative ways to deal with the world’s problems — all from the lens of how doing things now can help his daughter’s future.
Although it doesn’t present as scary or gutteral response as some of the films of the same ilk, this hopeful film isn’t meant to use scare tactics.
It’s a film about finding hope in a tumultuous time, and Garneau’s feature is an interesting meditation on how we can help future generations.
