REVIEW: Documentary shows daring surfer’s incredible journey

The story of Bethany Hamilton is a truly magnificent and uplifting one.

Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable gets up close and personal with the phenomenon and seemingly unstoppable force.

The surfer lost her arm to a shark attack at 13-years-old, but she’s defied the odds her entire life to become one of the most famous, competitive people in the field.

Hamilton — whose story was made into a feature film, Soul Surfer — is introduced to the audience smiling and excited.

Seeing what she can do on a surfboard is nothing short of magnificent, and the documentary is shot in a great, chronological manner that helps give weight to her story.

With her professional surfing career, marriage and baby, she is busy, but the film shows how she blends her entire life together so well.

It’s a deeply moving and emotional story told well by director-writer Aaron Lieber. It’s an interesting documentary that deserves to be seen.
