There’s something really disheartening about a performer who finds fame on TV, but fails to transition to more great fare after their show ends.
For This Is Is star Chrissy Metz, her Emmy-nominated role on the family drama feels like a one-hit wonder.
She flounders in this cobbled together horror film, one that lacks coherence, structure and any semblance of actual thrills.
Set during the holidays, it follows Faith (Metz), a nurse by trade who is taking care of her ill daughter. They are trapped in the home during a blizzard, and two strangers break into their home seeking refuge and warmth.
But Faith’s daughter’s illness actually turns her into a terrifying creature, and no one in the home is safe when she’s freed from captivity.
Besides Metz, Scout Taylor-Compton (known for starring in Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake), Oculus alum Annalise Basso and Connor Paolo, the former star of soapy TV show Revenge all share the screen. All capable of stellar performances on their own, they crumble under the weight of the nonsense script from Shannon Wells. Only Basso comes out relatively-unscathed.
While there’s a fair amount of gore for genre fans, director Damien LeVeck just can’t hold this one together. It’s a mess of a film, and most of it should have been left on the cutting room floor.
